Carrillo, Desai Drop Opening Round Matches at CSA Individual Championships Friday

NEW YORK (January 23, 2026) -- Sophomore Santiago Media Carrillo and junior Nachiket Desai started action at the 2026 College Squash Association (CSA) National Individual Tournament Friday, as the pair dropped their opening round contests in the Pool Trophy.

Carrillo was played seeded player Yousset Sarhan of Cornell University, a tough match-up but one that the Tufts sophomore was up for. Sarhan took the opening game 12-10, before opening up a 2-0 match lead with an 11-6 edge in the second.

Medina Carrillo battled back with two dominating games, winning 11-1 in the third before taking the fourth 11-7. In the deciding game, both players battled tooth and nail for the final game but Sarhan would take the final two points to earn the win 13-11 to move on to take on No. 1 seed Tad Carney of Yale University in the Round of 32.

Desai was pitted against another seeded player in Marwan Abdelsalam from the University of Pennsylvania, and while Desai competed and pushed the No.9/12 seed it was Abdelsalam who picked up the 11-5, 11-8 and 11-9 win in the opening round.

Both Desai and Medina Carrillo will compete in the Men Plate Pool A consolation ladders, as Medina Carrillo will take on Juan Felipe Hernandez of Denison College Saturday at 10:50 a.m. in New York.

Desai will take on Hamza Wessam of Colby College in Pool B on Saturday at 11:40 a.m. at Open Squash FiDi in the New York.
