CAMBRIDGE – The Jumbo men's squash team stopped a seven-match losing streak with a 9-0 victory over NESCAC foe Connecticut College on Sunday at Harvard.
Tufts won six of the nine matches in straight games as they improved to a 3-7 record. Connecticut College dropped to 3-5.
Junior Raghav Kumar in the #1 match, freshman Marco Rodriguez at #3 and freshman Dillon O'Shea at #6 all had to go four games for their Tufts wins. Kumar and Camel freshman MD Jawad were tied 1-1 before the Jumbo junior won the third and fourth games to take the match 11-8, 8-11, 11-5, 11-9. Rodriguez won a very competitive third match at 15-13, 10-12, 11-8, 11-8 over junior Mikey Rodriguez. Similarly, Tufts' O'Shea also won the final two against Conn's Samuel Piller for a competitive 11-6, 10-12, 11-5, 14-12 victory.
The Jumbos also had a few closely-contested three-game matches. At #5, freshman William Dewire won 11-3, 11-8. 11-9 against Scott Brown. The win was Dewire's seventh of the season. Senior co-captains Brett Raskopf at #8 and Aidan Porges at #9 both surrendered 19 points each in their Jumbo wins.
The easiest Tufts victory was in the seventh match were junior Connor Wind won by three straight 11-4 scores.
The Jumbos get right back at it with a match against Dickinson on Monday at Brown. The Camels get back to action on Friday against Bas in a match to be played at Yale.
