CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Frsehman Aman Navani picked up a win for the Jumbos but that was all they were able to manage as the No. 28 Tufts men's squash team fell to No. 22 MIT, 8-1, on Thursday evening on the road.
The Jumbos move to 7-11 overall this year with the setback. MIT improves to 15-5 with the win.
Amani took the courts in the seventh position against MIT's Justin Restivo and he won a five game battle. Navani won the first game, but Restivo took the second. Amani then took the lead with a win in the third game, but the two played to extra points in the fourth game and Amani was edged, 13-11. But, he picked up the 11-9 win in the fifth game to earn the point for the Jumbos (11-5, 6-11, 11-9, 11-13, 11-9).
Junior Alan Litman also played a tough five game match. Litman fell in extra points in the first game and then lost 11-1 in the second game. But, he made a comeback, winning the third game in extra points and then taking the fourth 11-4. MIT's Vedaant Paul Kukadia won the fifth game in extra points, 14-12, to earn the win for the Engineers (13-11, 11-1, 11-13, 4-11, 14-12).
Junior co-captain Aidan Porges won the third game, but wasn't able to complete the comeback as he fell in four games to William Wu in the fourth position, 11-8, 11-5, 8-11, 11-9. Sophomore Raghav Kumar played three close games with Joe O'Connor in the first spot, but he wasn't able to pull out a win, 12-10, 11-5, 11-7. Freshman Salik Awan also played three close games but was edged, as he fell to Robert Williamson, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9 in the sixth spot.
Junior Cameron Ewan faced off with Henry Martin in the third position, but fell 11-8, 11-1, 11-6. Freshman Daniel Hut wasn't able to steal a game from Jeffrey Hu in the fifth spot, falling 11-6, 11-7, 11-7. In the eighth spot Neel Das won in three games over Jumbo senior Josh Lee, 11-6, 13-11, 11-5. Rounding out the Jumbos lineup was sophomore Amun Sahrawat who was bested by Wonjune Kang in the ninth spot, 11-6, 11-7, 11-5.
The Jumbos are back in action on Saturday when they host Boston University at 2 pm at the Belmont Hill School.
