WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The eleventh seeded Tufts men's squash team took on sixth seeded Wesleyan in the first round of the 2015 NESCAC Championships on Friday afternoon, but the Cardinals topped the Jumbos, 9-0, to move on to the quarterfinal round of play on Saturday.
The Jumbos, who are now 5-11 this season and ranked #33 in the most recent College Squash Association national rankings, took on tenth seeded Connecticut College in a consolation match at 6:30 pm on Friday. The Camels lost to seventh seeded Amherst, 8-1, in the first round of play.
Wesleyan, who was ranked #21 in the most recent rankings, will move on to face third seeded Middlebury on Saturday in the quarterfinal round of play at noon on Saturday. The Jumbos will play their second consolation match on Saturday at 7:30 pm against the loser of the match between ninth seeded Hamilton and eighth seeded Bowdoin, which was played at 6:30 pm on Friday.
Junior tri-captain Aditya Advani took the courts in the first position, and was topped by the Cardinal's Guy Davidson as he defaulted after two games (11-1, 11-6, 11-0). In the second position, senior tri-captain Elliot Kardon was bested by Raheem Logan in three games, 11-5, 11-3, 11-4. Taking the courts in the third position for the first time this semester, junior Brandon Weiss fell to Alex Kamisher, 11-1, 11-3, 11-5.
In the fourth position senior tri-captain Hugo Meggitt was topped by Chris Hart in three games (11-3, 11-2, 11-3). Freshman Alec Goodrich faced off with Mike Delalio in the fifth position, but his Wesleyan counterpart won in three games (11-5, 11-0, 11-2). In the sixth position, sophomore Owen Elliot lost in three games to the Cardinal's Dan Sneed (11-0, 11-2, 11-3).
Rookie John Patrick faced off with Wesleyan's David Sneed in the seventh position, but fell in three games, 11-0, 11-1, 11-6. Sophomores Danny Fischer and Austin Brush rounded out the Jumbos lineup in the eighth and ninth positions, respectively, but neither Jumbo was able to earn a win.
