MEDFORD, MA (April 19, 2025) - The Tufts University men's track and field team finished the Sunshine Classic by rattling off nine individual event wins on day two in Medford.
Sahr Matturi picked up the first win of the day for the Jumbos by smashing his personal best in the long jump. The junior jumped to a 7.34m, improving his personal record by 24cm. Junior
Casey Lambert took second with a 7.19m, also setting a new personal best.
Edward Kiboma was up next in the high jump, and earned Tufts' second victory of the day with a jump of 1.95m. It was eight cm off of the senior's personal best, a fitting way to celebrate senior day at home.
First year
Luke Benson rounded out the field events with another win for the Jumbos, taking first place in the triple jump. He improved his personal best by three cm with a jump of 14.72m.Â
The first win on the track came from the 4x100m relay squad. The team of
Ethan Forde,
Josh Wilkie,
Brady Kamali and
Noah Turner finished in first with a 41.87, almost half a second ahead of second place Bridgewater State.
Wilkie earned another victory in the 110m hurdles later in the day, finishing ahead of Cameron McLeod. The pair of juniors finished within half a second of one another, with Wilkie finishing in 14.57 and McLeod in 15.27. The runner up was a hair away from his personal best, finishing just three hundredths off his all-time record.
Turner also picked up an individual victory in the 100m dash, finishing first with a 10.65 for a new personal best. Forde took third with a personal best time of 11.04. Turner would also win the 200m dash with a personal best time of 21.67.Â
Tufts swept the podium in the 800m run, as sophomore
Sam Kurian led a trio of Jumbos to victory. Kurian set a new personal best en route to the win with a 1:52.29, with fellow sophomore
Meba Henok hot on his heels in second with a 1:52.45. Henok's finish was also a personal best, and was a solid second ahead of third place
Liam Lucas with a 1:56.32.Â
McLeod led another trio to a podium sweep in the 400m hurdles with a 54.10. First year
Sebastian Cohen finished right behind him with a 55.03, ahead of junior Marten Tropp in third with a 55.42.Â
Wilkie rounded out the day with a second place finish in the 200m dash, finishing just behind Turner with a 21.99.Â
Tufts will carry their momentum from a fantastic weekend of action into the NESCAC Championships at Wesleyan University on Saturday, April 26.Â
