MEDFORD, MA (April 15, 2025) -- Senior
Max Ettinghausen scored a career-high six goals on Tuesday evening, helping lead the No. 1 Tufts University men's lacrosse team to a through 21-5 win over visiting No. 20 Babson College in a top-20 battle on Bello Field in the non-conference finale for the Jumbos.
Ettinghausen, who moved into No. 17 on the all-time scoring list at Tufts with his now 128 goals in his career, was the catalyst for the Jumbos' offense has he tallied on all six of his shots on goal on Tuesday. Junior
Beau Keough also tallied a career-high against Babson, as he scored four goals on the night.
Tufts (13-0) opened the scoring a little over three minutes into the game on Keough's 10th goal of the season, followed by Ettinghausen's first of the night at 11:12 of the first quarter to make it 2-0. Babson got the the board at 8:25 of the opening period, but Tufts would finish the first quarter with scores from
Will Emsing and
Jack Regnery to make it 4-1 at the first intermission.
The second quarter would be where the host Jumbos distanced themselves from Babson, outscoring the Beavers 7-1 in the frame to take an 11-2 lead at the halftime break. In the frame,
Michael Ayers scored his first goal of the season in transition while Regnery and Ettinghausen each had a pair in the frame to help put the Jumbos up by nine.
The third quarter was much like the second, as Tufts potted six more in the period including three from Ettinghausen to make it 17-4 after 45 minutes. In the fourth quarter, Keough started the frame with his fourth of the game and seniors
Callum Wood and
Joey Kraft each tallied unassisted to get Tufts up to 20 on the night as a squad. The final exclamation for the Jumbos came from sophomore
Drew Haugen, who netted his first career scored with just under two minutes to play to send the sideline into a frenzy.
Regnery tallied five points on four goals and an assist, also adding two ground balls, and Keough netted his four goals on four shots on goal. Regnery went from No. 7 and No. 4 on the all-time goal scoring list Tuesday with his now 153 scores, passing Ben Connelly '19, Danny Murphy '19 and Sean Kirwan '12 all whom had 150 in their careers. He is also now No. 9 on the all-time career points list with 218.
Emsing finished with three points on two goals and an assist, and
Brooks Hauser set up a pair of goals to go with three grounders.
The face-off unit continued to excel for the Jumbos, as junior
Victor Salcedo was 7-for-11 with five loose balls and senior teammate
Parker Merril was 7-for-12 with four ground balls. Junior
Chris Tsetsekos won both of his draws, while Erik Helgesen was 3-for-4 and sophomore
Lucas De la Paz won his lone face-off.
Junior
Ben Clarke had a strong day defensively with four loose ball pick-ups and two caused turnovers, and
Joey Waldbaum forced one turnover to go with three grounders.
In net,
Conner Garzone stayed undefeated with a 12-0 record on the season with six saves and only three goals allowed in 38 minutes of play. Senior Ben Friedlman had two stops in 10 minutes of action, and sophomore
Will Anderson also had two saves in just over seven minutes between the pipes.
Tufts outshot Babson 67-31 on the night including a 43-15 edge in shots on goals. The ground ball battle went in favor of the Jumbos, 52-30, and Tufts was a solid 2-for-4 with the extra man. The Jumbos also upped their current win streak to 18 games, the best in all of NCAA men's lacrosse.
Babson had five different goal scorers on Tuesday evening, and Alex Fascilla stopped 15 shots in 40 minutes of action. Andrew Almquist also made seven saves in relief for the Beavers.
Tufts will now finish its regular season with a pair of road New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) contests, starting with a road tilt at Amherst College April 19 at 1 pm in Amherst, MA.
