Jumbos Celebrate Senior Day With 16-11 Win Over Middlebury Saturday

MEDFORD, MA (April 12, 2025) -- The top-ranked Tufts University men's lacrosse team kept their nation-best win streak going on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day, as the Jumbos secured their 17th straight win with a 16-11 victory over Middlebury College in league action from Bello Field.

The 17-game win streak, which dates back to last season, is the top win current streak in all of NCAA men's lacrosse as the Jumbos stayed unbeaten in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play as well. The Jumbos are also one of just two teams in Division III left undefeated, as Salisbury University is also unbeaten at 14-0.

Tufts (12-0, 8-0 NESCAC) dominated the opening 15 minutes of the game, scoring the contest's first five goals book ended by strikes from junior Jack Regnery including one with three seconds to play in the frame to make it 5-0. Middlebury scored three times early in the second quarter to make it 5-3, but Regnery came right back with two consecutive tallies to make it 7-3 at the 10:22 mark.

Minutes later, Brooks Hauser netted his first of three goals on the day to keep the five-goal run going, and Max Ettinghausen set up Joey Kraft before scoring one of his own to up the Tufts lead to 10-3. The Panthers (7-6, 5-3 NESCAC) would stopped the run on a Will Ford goal with 3:04 to go in the half, but Hauser got that right back with an unassisted score to make it 11-4 Tufts at the break.

The beginning of the third quarter started with another quick goal spurt by the Jumbos, as Regnery potted his 39th of the season to start a four-goal stretch that ended with a full-field goalkeeper goal by senior Ben Friedman into the empty net due to the 10-man ride of Middlebury.

The Panthers would scored seven of the final eight goals of the game, but it wasn't enough as the Jumbos cruised to the win.

Regnery finished with seven points on five goals and two helpers, as he upped his career-points total to 213 and move into No. 10 all-time in program history. He's just one point shy of Ryan Molloy for No. 9 on the points list now.

Hauser had three goals and two assists for five points, and Ettinghausen also had four points on three scores and an assist. Garrett Kelly added two assists and Will Emsing set up a goal while scoring once as well. Parker Merril celebrated his Senior Day with a strong 10-for-16 day at the X, adding seven loose balls, and Victor Salcedo was 8-for-13 with seven grounders.

Senior Michael Ayers had a strong day with five ground balls and two caused turnovers, while senior defender Joey Waldbaum also had four loose ball pickups with two caused turnovers. Logan Lee forced a pair of Middlebury mistakes, and George Panagopoulos added a caused turnover and three grounders.

Both senior keepers played for the Jumbos, as Conner Garzone stopped eight shots in 36 minutes of action to earn the win. He now has 599 career saves and moved into No. 6 all-time at Tufts as he surpassed Patton Watkins '13 on the list. Friedman scored his second career goal and stopped six shots as well in his 24 minutes of action.

Tufts outshot Middlebury 62-40 for the day, going 19-for-31 on face-offs Saturday. Tufts held a 47-32 edge in ground balls as well.

Ford and Cooper DeMallie each had three goals for the Panthers, while Hayden Kern stopped 15 shots in the net for Middlebury.

Tufts will finish up its non-conference slate on Tuesday night at 7 p.m., hosting No. 20 Babson College on Bello Field.
