Box Score WILLIAMSTOWN - In a back-and-forth event on Sunday afternoon in Williamstown, Tufts Men's Soccer and Williams College met to a draw 2-2.
Â
Will Felitto for Williams was the star of the game scoring a brace. His second goal was the equalizer for his team. A ball crossed into the box found his head which popped it straight up into the air. As he followed up on it, he was able to jump over Tufts goalkeeper
Erik Lauta and tuck it away evening the score 2-2 in the 67th minute.
Â
Just 10 minutes into the game, Williams was awarded a penalty kick after being taken down in the box. Felitto stepped up to the stripe to take the kick where he put it bottom right, but it was stopped by Lauta. Felitto was able to redeem himself just two minutes later when a free kick from just inside half field was clipped into the box by Cole Morriello, finding a leaping Felitto over the crowd. He got a header to it and put it into the back of the net. Williams went up 1-0 from that attempt in the 12th minute.
Â
The Jumbos responded in the 21st minute when
Ian Daly was able to serve a ball from the right corner into the box on the ground finding
Mateo Bargagna who one-touched it into the back of the net evening the score 1-1. Tufts took the lead at 2-1 with just a minute remaining in the first half with an absolute rocket of a goal from freshman
Daniel Yanez that soared into the top right corner. This was his first career goal, and a stunning one to put his name on.
Â
Tufts won the corners battle four to three on the afternoon. With that being said, it was Williams who put on more shots with 13 while Tufts attempted nine. Lauta notched two saves where opposite him, Williams' Ben Diffley made four saves.
Â
Tufts, who won at Amherst College yesterday 3-2, is now 2-1-2, 1-1-2 NESCAC while Williams' record is 2-0-3, 1-0-1. Tufts will next take on Salem State in a non-conference game Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Bello Field.
