MEDFORD, MA (December 18, 2025) -- The United Soccer Coaches recently announced both their Scholar All-American and Scholar All-Region squads, and Tufts junior
Xavier Canfin and senior
Daniel Yanez were both named among the squads.
Canfin was tabbed to the Scholar All-East Region First Team and Scholar All-American Second Team honors, while Yanez picked up Scholar All-Region Second Team for their work on the field and in the classroom.
United Soccer Coaches Scholar Awards recognize student-athletes for balancing academic excellence with on-field performance. Criteria involve a minimum of a 3.40 cumulative grade point average, while playing in 75 percent of the games and earning All-Conference, All-Region or All-American on the field. Players are nominated by their head coach.
Canfin is coming off a season that saw him earn New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) First Team, while also picking up All-Region and All-American honors. Canfin, who carries a 3.79 GPA in economics, scored the game-winning goal in both the NESCAC and NCAA title games, and led the Jumbos in scoring with eight goals and six assists. He's the first Tufts honoree on this list since Ian Daly in 2022.
Yanez, who has a 3.92 GPA in economics, was an All-NESCAC honoree after playing in all 24 games, starting 23 times while netting five goals to go with two assists. He scored all five of his penalties this season, as each ended up being a game-winning goal.
The Jumbos finished the 2025 season as NCAA champions for the fifth team, going 20-1-3 and also finishing the regular season as the top seed while winning the NESCAC Tournament for the fourth time.
