Women's Sailing Second-Place Finish at President's Trophy Best in 2 Years

BOSTON - The Tufts women's sailing had its best performance in two years with a second-place finish out of 14 teams at the President's Trophy hosted by Boston University on Saturday and Sunday.

With a 124 final score, the Jumbos trailed only Yale's 114 score. Third-place Bowdoin College finished at 133. The runner-up showing is the best by the Tufts women since they were second at Coast Guard's Emily Wick Trophy on April 13-14, 2013.

Tufts was led by a pair of first-years in B Division, who placed second in their races with a  57 score. Skipper Molly Pleskus and crew Lucy Zwigard won the third, sixth and 10th starts while taking second in the 11th.

Twelve races in two divisions were competed overall.

The Jumbos performed well in A's also. Senior skipper Kate Levinson with senior crew Emily Lynn were fourth with finishes adding up to 57. They won back-to-back races in the sixth and seventh and were the runner-up in the third.

Winds averaged 10-15 knots in the early afternoon Saturday, dying down to 5-8 knots in the evening. A total of 12 races were sailed, sixr aces in both A and B. A lovely day of sailing on the Charles River followed on Sunday. Breeze from the east averaged 5-10 knots, topping out at 15 in some puffs.
