MEDFORD - The wind wreaked havoc in opposite degrees as the Tufts women's sailing team opened its 2015 season at the Navy Spring Open in Maryland on Saturday and Sunday. Light winds on Saturday and heavy winds on Sunday limited racing to five A Division starts and four in B Division.
Racing took place at Triton Point in Annapolis Harbor. Tufts placed 11th out of 20 teams with a 94 score. They were two behind 10th place Eckerd (92) and two in front of 12th place Coast Guard (96).
The Jumbos were fourth in A Division, winning a tie-breaker against Wisconsin by head-to-head success. Sophomore skipper MaryClaire Kiernan and junior crew Amanda Sommi accumulated finishes totaling 28. They were the runner-up in the fourth race.
Tufts placed 15th in B's, where senior Kate Levinson skippered with classmate Emily Lynn as crew. The Jumbos totaled a 56 score.
