MEDFORD, MA (May 28, 2026) -- The Tufts University men's rowing team will travel to Gold River, California this weekend for the 2026 Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championships, held on Lake Natoma starting Friday, May 29. The Jumbos will be on the hunt for their first national title this weekend.

When Do The Jumbos Race
The Jumbos will get into the water for Event #17 on Friday morning at 10:08 for the Varsity 1V8+ against Wesleyan, Bates and Ithaca. Right after that, the Jumbos will be 2V8+ will take the the water in Lane 1, also battling Wesleyan, Bates and Ithaca.
On Saturday, the Varsity 2nd 8+ finals will take place at 11:48 and 11:56, while the Varsity 8+ finals are at 12:14 and 12:22 on Saturday.
Tufts will also compete a 4V8+ Friday at 11:30 a.m., with the semifinals at 4:00 p.m. The varsity four finals are at 10:32 Saturday.
The Division III Team Awards are at 12:40 PM on Saturday.
What To Look For
The Jumbos have been one of the top five boats in the nation this season, coming in ranked No. 4 in the country according to the last IRCA/IRA Division III poll. The Jumbos 2V8+ has been one of the best in the nation as it has won three of its five regattas to date. That includes the National Invitational Rowing Championships, when the Jumbos were first.
At the IRA Championships, the "national champion" is crowned by the team that wins the first varsity boat, and the Jumbos will look to improve on its last two race finishes of fifth at the New England Rowing Championships and fourth at the NIRC and NESCAC meet.
Tufts varsity four has been strong all year, finishing in the top two of each race including winning the NIRC Championships.
