WALTHAM, MA (January 31, 2026) -- The Tufts University women's fencing team went unblemished Saturday afternoon at the Eric Sollee Invitational at Brandeis University, winning all five matches including knocking off No. 1 ranked NYU along the way.
The Jumbos started the day with a 21-6 win over NJIT, following that up with a 24-3 victory over Hunter College. The big wins would come after that round, as Tufts topped No. 1 NYU 17-10 followed by an 18-9 victory over Stevens. The afternoon would end with another win over a ranked opponent, as Tufts bested No. 4 MIT 15-12 in a tight matchup.
Against NJIT, all three weapon groups earned wins highlighted by a 9-0 sweep by the epee team thanks to six default wins.
Karen Bei,
Olivia Judicke and
Emily You all picked up wins in epee, while both the sabre and foil teams added 6-3 wins.
Olympe Jean was 2-1 against NJIT in sabre, while
Anahat Bawa and
Emily Xu each had two victories as well. In foil,
Sophie Guan was 3-0 while
Katie Han was 2-1.
The Jumbos would dominate action against Hunter, earning a 9-0 win in sabre as the foil team tallied an 8-1 win and epee logged a 7-2 victory. Xu and Bawa were a perfect 3-0, while Jean went 2-0 and
Asher Boynton subbed in to go 1-0. You went 2-1 in epee, Judicke was 2-0 and
Mikayla Joseph also recorded a 2-1 mark. Foil saw
Jess Charalel record a 2-1 record, and
Chloe Wang won all three of her matches.
Kiki Liu was also 3-0 in foil against Hunter.
The Jumbos would also earn three weapon wins against NYU, as sabre and foil went 6-3 and epee tallied a 5-4 win. Xu picked up three more wins at sabre, while Boynton was 2-1 to help pace the group. In epee Bei and You each were 2-1, while Han,
Layla Roy and Guan each recorded two wins in foil.
The wins continued to come for the Jumbos against Stevens, as the foil team highlighted the victory with a 7-2 win. Sabre tallied a 6-3 win while epee eked out a 5-4 triumph as well. Boynton went 2-0 while Jean was 2-1 for the Jumbos in sabre, and You recorded a 3-0 mark at epee. In foil, Charalel and You were each 2-1 while Wang added three wins for Tufts.
The final match of the day featured the closest bout scores, as the foul team won 6-3 over No. 4 MIT with the epee team adding a 5-4 win. Bei and Joseph were 2-1 against the Engineers in epee, while Boynton's 3-0 mark in sabre was the highlight in that weapon. The difference in the match was at foil, as Roy won all three of her bouts while Han tallied a 2-1 mark to help in the win.
Tufts will now look to keep its momentum going in two weeks, heading to the EWFC Championships at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY Sunday, February 15 in Walker Field House.
