Women's Lacrosse Powers Past No. 11 W&L, 17-6

LEXINGTON, VA (March 21, 2025) -- The No. 2 Tufts University women's lacrosse team continued their impressive start to the 2025 season, overpowering No. 11 Washington and Lee University with a 17-6 victory on Friday night at Watt Field. The Jumbos improved to 6-0 with a balanced offensive effort and a lockdown defensive performance.

The Jumbos quickly raced out to a 4-0 lead just 4:34 into the contest, as four different Tufts players found the back of the net to force a Washington & Lee timeout. The defensive unit for the Jumbos was strong in the opening quarter, forcing six turnovers as a Caroline Conaghan goal made it 5-0 after 15 minutes.

Tufts would continue to hold the Generals (7-4) off the board until Lara Baki finally scored for the hosts with 5:07 left in the half to make it 6-1. Junior Allie Zorn scored a minute later, followed quickly by tallies from senior Margie Carden to help the Jumbos lead 9-2 at the break.

The Tufts' lead would continue to swell up to as much as 13 with four minutes left in the game after a Neta Leschly goal to make it 17-4, as the Jumbos cruised to the non-conference victory.

Zorn finished with a career-high eight points on five goals and three helpers, adding two ground balls while scoring on each of her three free position attempts. Senior Ella Lesperance tallied four goals and helped out on two more for six points as her assist streak reached 17 games.

Midfielder Madeline Delaney finished with two goals, an assist, two ground balls and five draw controls in the win, while Emma Joyce added two goals, an assist, two grounders and two caused turnovers.

Senior Genna Gibbons had five draw controls and two ground balls, while junior defender Nicola Donlan had a career-high four caused turnovers and two loose balls. Schuyler Lloyd also had two draw controls as well, and Caroline Cromwell added three ground balls.

Senior keeper Pascale de Buren was lights out on the day for the Jumbos, as she stopped 10 shots including four in the second quarter. Tufts outshot its hosts 27-21 on the day, while posting a strong 21-for-22 mark on clears on the day. The Jumbos also converted on five of its nine attempts on free-position shots.
