AZUSA, CALIF. - (March 18, 2025) - The Tufts University baseball team was beaten by the No. 12 ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags in the continuation of their West Coast road trip on Tuesday at the Cougar Baseball Complex.
The Jumbos (3-7) starter
Emmet Christian ran into a red hot Stags (15-3) team that had won 10 in a row. The nominal hosts, playing on the campus of Southern Azusa University, jumped all over the rookie starter, adding three runs in the bottom of the first inning.
The Stags added another run in the bottom of the second, but a great relay began by right fielder
AJ Lysko and finished by
James Henshon, who applied the tag to eliminate the advancing runner at third.Â
Tufts added a run when Lysko next came up to hit in the fourth, as he doubled to right center field to drive in
Cooper Smith. Tufts trailed 4-1 after four, and Lysko had earned his first RBI of the season.Â
Christian's day was done after the Stags answered back with back to back home runs, driving their lead up to 7-1. Michael O'Brian came on in relief and pitched a solid one and two thirds innings with a strikeout to round out a strong performance.Â
Henry Fleckner tacked on another pair of runs by blasting his first home run of the season over the wall in left, bringing Smith around to score and making the score 7-3.
Reliever
Ronan Hwang conceded the final run of the day, as a bloop single landed in no-man's land past second base to score the runner from third.Â
Tufts dropped the game to No. 12 ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and will have to change gears quickly as they take on Chapman University tomorrow at 3:00 pm PDT (6:00 EDT).
