NEW LONDON, CT (March 1, 2025) -- The No. 1 Tufts University men's lacrosse team poured in nine first-quarter goals, rolling to a season-opening 18-7 road win at Connecticut College in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play from Silfen Field Saturday evening.
The Jumbos won their 12th straight season opener on Saturday evening, as Tufts posted its 14th straight true road victory dating back to the 2022 season.
Tufts won the first face-off and scored on its first shot of the season, as junior long-stick midfielder
Ben Frisoli tallied just 26 seconds into the year to make it 1-0 for Tufts. Junior
Jack Regnery scored 90 seconds later, before Conn. College (1-0) got its first tally on an Andrew Rainville goal.
Minutes later, Tufts got its third goal of the game from
Louis Timmins to start a 6-0 run to take an 8-1 lead following a
Max Ettinghausen strike at the 3:36 mark of the opening quarter.
Ettinghausen would tally again with one second to play in the first quarter, as the Jumbos led by seven at 9-2 going to the second quarter. Regnery started the second quarter with back-to-back goals to make it 11-2, and junior
Garrett Kelly set up senior
Charlie Tagliaferri to make it 12-2. Senior middle
Cam Delcristo finished the first-half scoring for Tufts with his first of the season to send the game to halftime with the Jumbos up 13-3.
The Jumbos lead would swell up to as much as 14 following a
Joey Kraft goal at 1:15 of the third quarter as Tufts cruised to the victory.
Regnery finished with a game-high seven points on six goals and an assist, while Ettinghausen had three goals and an assist for four points.
Junior attack
Brooks Hauser finished with a team-high four helpers, and
Ben Frisoli had a goal and two assists to go with a ground ball and caused turnover. Junior
Beau Keough tallied twice for Tiufts, and sophomore
Jackson Redd contributed a goal and an assist in the win.
Tufts was stellar at the face-off "X" on Saturday, led by a perfect 12-for-12 evening by senior
Parker Merril. Merril had five ground balls, while
Victor Salcedo was 5-for-10 with six grounders and a caused turnover.
Defensively, senior
Joey Waldbaum had two caused turnovers to go with a ground ball, while
Ethan O'Neill also had a caused turnover and a loose ball pickup.
In cage,
Conner Garzone made five saves in 30 minutes of action, while
Ben Friedman stopped five shots in the third quarter. Sophomore
Will Anderson and first-years
Jack Old and
Alex Dircks all got time in the fourth quarter as well.
Tufts outshot CC 53-34 Saturday, while posting a 40-23 edge in ground balls and a 19-9 edge at the "X."
Rainville led the Camels with two goals and two assists, while Patrick Hogan had 15 saves in the loss.
The Jumbos will have a week off before taking on Trinity College in the home opener Saturday, March 8 at 1 p.m. in NESCAC play from Bello Field.
