Congdon Scores 18 Points To Lead Women's Basketball To 79-63 Win Over MIT in Home Opener

MEDFORD, MA (December 3, 2025) -- First-year guard Abby Congdon posted a team-high 18 points, leading four players in double figures for the Tufts University women's basketball team as the Jumbos opened their home slate with a 79-63 win over visiting MIT in non-conference action from Cousens Gymnasium Wednesday.

Congdon finished just two points shy of her season-high of 20 against Endicott College last week, but she was very efficient Wednesday going 6-of-9 from the floor while going 2-of-3 from behind the three-point line. She also added five rebounds and four assists in the victory.

The Jumbos (5-3) led by four at the break despite 11 first-half turnovers but were bailed out by strong shooting over the first 20 minutes, going 15-of-29 (55.0 percent) in the first two stanzas to lead 37-33 at the break. The turning point in the game came in the third quarter, as Tufts outscored their visitors 23-12 in the frame. The Jumbos led 40-37 with 5:30 minutes to go in the frame, but Tufts went on a 17-2 run over the five minutes to lead by 18 at 57-39.

Tufts would up its lead to 22 points at 71-49 with just under six minutes to play, rolling to its second straight victory.

Sophomore Claire Kolkhorst was part of the hot shooting from three-point land on Wednesday, as she posted 13 points on three triples, adding three steals. Senior Annie Aspesi chalked up 11 points and five rebounds as well, while Stella Galanes came off the bench to hit five of her seven field goals en route to 11 points in 24 minutes.

Sophomore Abi Stone posted eight points in nine minutes, and senior Sarah Crossett had eight points and four rebounds. First-year Tessa Lozner handed out six assists in 21 minutes, tallying six points and four rebounds as well. Tufts shot a season-high 53.4 percent (31-58) from the floor Wednesday, making nine of its 16 for their three-point attempts for a 56.3 percent clip. It was the highest three-point percentage for a Jumbos team since shooting 57.1 percent against Springfield last January 1.

Ruth Lanouette had 19 points and eight rebounds for MIT (3-5).

The Jumbos will host Brandeis University Saturday at 1 p.m. in more non-conference play in Cousens Gymnasium.
