BEVERLY, MA (November 25, 2025) -- First-year guard
Abby Congdon scored a team-high 20 points Tuesday evening, but it wasn't enough as the Tufts University women's basketball team was topped in overtime by host Endicott College, 77-74.
The Jumbos led for 37:01 of the game on Tuesday, though the contest was pretty close with nine lead changes and nine tie scores during the contest. In fact, the largest lead of the game came in the first eight points of the evening, as the Jumbos (3-3) jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead at the 7:53 mark of the contest.
Tufts led 17-13 after the first quarter thanks to six points from senior guard
Annie Aspesi, but the Gulls (4-3) took its first edge at 20-19 after a pair of free throws. Tufts would regain the lead heading into halftime, as Aspesi made a hook shot and then first-year
Tessa Lozner converted a fast break off a steal at the horn to make it 28-25 Jumbos heading to the intermission.
In the third quarter, Tufts grew its lead up to as many as six points right before the end of the quarter on a pair of free throws by
Stella Galanes, taking a 49-43 edge into the final period.
Down the stretch, Tufts regained its eight-point lead early and continued to hold the advantage at eight with six minutes to go after Galanes nailed a triple to make it 56-48.
Endicott slowly trimmed the lead down over the final five minutes of the game, and eventually tied the contest at 63 on a three-pointer with 52 seconds to play. Aspesi answered with an offensive rebound put-back but the Gulls would send the game to overtime with a floater with 27 seconds to play.
In the extra session, Tufts led three times including by two at 74-72 after a Congdon bucket but the Gulls made a jumper with 34 seconds left in overtime and a three-pointer with two seconds to play was the difference.
Congdon added team-highs of five assists and eight rebounds in the loss, shooting 9-of-26 from the floor, while Aspesi tallied 14 points, six rebounds and two assists on 5-of-9 shooting.
Galanes came off the bench to post 13 points and three caroms, while senior
Sarah Crossett also had 10 points and five boards. Tufts was 29-of-74 (39.2 percent) from the field on Tuesday night, dominating the second-chance points column 20-8. The Jumbos also finished with a 17-0 edge in bench points.
Aleah Bracey finished with a game-high 25 points on 7-of-13 shooting from three-point land, while Emma Shinney had a triple-double in the win with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Shinney was 11-of-14 in the win from the floor. Endicott shot 50.8 percent on the night, including going 10-of-25 (40 percent) from behind the arc.
Tufts will return to action Sunday against Rhode Island College in Providence, RI at 1 p.m. in non-conference action.
