MEDFORD, MA (October 31, 2025) -- The No. 4 ranked Tufts University men's basketball team returns all five starters to the squad this season, along with the senior duo of forward
Scott Gyimesi and guard
James Morakis, who were named as 2025 D3hoops.com Preseason All-Americans on Thursday evening.
Gyimesi picked up a spot on the Third Team, while Morakis was selected to the Fourth Team. Gyimesi moves up from the Fifth Team preseason rank as a junior, while Morakis makes his first appearance on the prognostication. It's the first time since the start of D3hoops.com doing a Preseason All-American list that Tufts has earned two honorees in the same year.
Gyimesi was an all-around impact player for the Jumbos in 2024-25, as he led the team in field goal percentage and rebounding. The junior tallied 15.3 points per game, fifth in the conference, while his 9.9 rebounds per game was second in the NESCAC. His defensive rebounding numbers also topped the league's ledger with 7.3 per game. Gyimesi also sat at the top spot in the league in field goal percentage with a 58.5 percent clip, ranking fifth in the NESCAC in assists per game with 3.1 as well. Gyimesi posted 14 double-doubles throughout the season.
Morakis was the team's leading scorer this season with 17.9 points per game, which was third-best in the NESCAC.  Not only did he fill it up offensively, but his 49.7 percent shooting was sixth-best in the NESCAC among qualified players. He posted 11 20-point games as well. Morakis's top scoring output came in the NCAA Tournament Second Round, as he posted 36 points against Redlands, a career-high. The 36 points in a game was the second-highest scoring output in the NESCAC this season, and the most for a Jumbos player since 2017.
Gyimesi currently has 904 points for his career, while Morakis is right behind with 888.
The Jumbos kick off their season November 14 at 7 p.m. against Babson College in Babson Park, MA.
