WORCESTER, MA (April 21, 2024) - Tufts University Men's Rowing won its fourth straight Baker Cup over WPI in first varsity racing this morning on Lake Quinsigamond. The Jumbos have now held the Cup since 2019 (the 2020 and 2021 races were not held due to COVID).
The first varsity race for the third-ranked Jumbos against #6 WPI also included #8 Marietta College (who were not contenders for the Baker Cup). It was Marietta who gave the Jumbos a bigger challenge. Tufts pulled out to a half-length lead early and was able to maintain a near-full length margin throughout the 2000 meters. The Jumbos finished at a 6:01.2 time to 6:05.26 for Marietta and 6:07.76 for WPI. Tufts' line-up had coxswain

After a similar start to the second varsity race, the Jumbos gradually pulled away and by the 1000-meter mark were ahead by open water. Their advantage extended to two full lengths of open water and the Jumbos crossed the finish line with a 6:10.1 time. Marietta came across at 6:20.32, then WPI in 6:27.3. Coxswain

Hayden Stone - were ahead by open water at the halfway point. All three Jumbo eights would finish ahead of the WPI third varsity in the race. The 3V8 won in 6:12.75, followed by the fourth Jumbo boat (6:17.31). Tufts' 5V8 (6:22.31) held off WPI (6:24.99) to take third by a half-length.
