WORCESTER, MA (November 23, 2024) – The Tufts University women's swimming & diving team defeated WPI (240-54) and Trinity College (233-64), but lost to Williams College (167-130) at a quad meet hosted by WPI on Saturday.
The Jumbos edged Williams College in both relays today. To start the day, Tufts' 200 medley relay foursome of Gaurika Singh, Quinci Wheeler, Lara Wujciak and Jillian Cudney swam 1:46.32 to defeat Williams (1:46.45) by 0.13.
Then at the end of the meet, Jumbos Wheeler, Isa Chambers, Emma Claus and Cudney timed 1:37.21 to win the 200 freestyle relay. They were 0.41 ahead of Williams. Tufts also took third in the 200 free relay on a time of 1:39.63 by Sweeney Su, Sydney Stasz, Katharine Skelly and Elena Harrison.
Junior Madeleine Dunn contributed first-place points to the Jumbos in two distance freestyle events. She swam a strong 10:22.77 to win the 1000, then later was first in the 500 with a 5:02.03 mark. Dunn was also the runner-up in the 200 free (1:55.13) for an excellent day.
Wujciak and Cudney also added victories for the Jumbos. A 2:08.90 time won the 200 butterfly for Wujciak, and Cudney followed with a 24.48 win in the 50 freestyle. Isa Chambers was third in the 50 free (24.62).
The Jumbos posted second- and third-place finishes in the 100 backstroke, 100 freestyle and 200 backstroke. Singh led in the 100 back with a 58.12 mark for second place, while Noa Chambers took third (58.45). For the 100 free, Cudney was the runner up in a 53.35 finish followed by Isa Chambers who was third in a 54.10 mark. Junior Madison Hagberg's excellent 2:07.13 time was second in the 200 back followed by Noa Chambers in third (2:07.16).
Wheeler submitted a pair of seconds, in the 100 breaststroke at 1:05.64 and in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:26.22 touch. Wujciak was the runner-up in the 100 butterfly as well, swimming 58.61 seconds. Noa Chambers was also Tufts' top finisher and fourth overall for the 400 individual medley (4:42.39).
Luci Karp was the Jumbos' top diver in both events. She scored 239.35 in one-meter and 226.60 in three-meter.
Tufts continues a busy weekend tomorrow with a dual meet at Brandeis University beginning at 1 PM.
