MEDFORD, MA (May 14, 2023) -- The No. 1 ranked Tufts University men's lacrosse team outscored No. 10 York (Pa.) 12-2 in the second and third quarters for a 22-7 victory in the NCAA Tournament Third Round at Bello Field on Sunday afternoon.

Will Harnick got the Spartans on the board first, but that was followed by four unanswered goals from the Jumbos.
Joe Murtha got it started for Tufts as he took a feed from
Charlie Tagliaferri who then gave the Jumbos the lead at 2-1. Following a
Victor Salcedo faceoff win,
Kevin Christmas gave Tufts a two-goal lead. After a
Conner Garzone save,
Kurt Bruun made it 4-1 after
Jack Boyden found him with 6:12 left in the first quarter.
A York goal cut the Jumbo lead in half, but Boyden gave Tufts a 5-2 lead going to second quarter off the assist from Bruun. The Jumbos got possession following a York turnover that was caused by
Michael Ayers in the middle of the field as Bruun picked up the ball and found Boyden on the wing.

Following a Spartans' goal to cut the Jumbo lead to two again on the man-up, the Jumbos scored six straight goals.
Tommy Swank gave Tufts a three-goal lead as he took a pass from
Max Ettinghausen and then
Jack Regnery and Bruun opened a five-goal Jumbo lead with a little over six minutes remaining before halftime.
Bruun found Boyden again for a 9-3 Tufts lead and then found Christmas with 1:21 left in the second quarter. On an ensuing man-up possession, Tagliaferri took a feed from Boyden in the middle of the defense and buried it to give the Jumbos an 11-3 lead at halftime.
Coming out of halftime,
Cam Delcristo made it 12-3 as Bruun got his fourth assist of the game with York scoring afterward to make it an eight-goal game. The next five goals were scored by Tufts as
Louis Timmins regained Tufts' nine-goal advantage with Bruun making it a 10-goal lead as Regnery found him off an end line restart.
With under two minutes left in the third quarter, the Jumbos scored three times as Regnery found the back of the net after a Jumbo timeout. Delcristo scored a second time in the game and then Christmas also got his second goal as the Jumbos led 17-4 going into the fourth quarter.
While on the man-down, Boyden made it 18-4 just 30 seconds into the quarter as he got to the middle of the defense and found the top right corner of the net. He then took a feed from Tagliaferri and buried another one as the lead grew to 15.
Ben Frisoli continued the offensive output as Boyden found him after a Garzone save and Tufts reached 20 or more goals in a game for the 13th time this season.
York would score two of the next three goals with the Jumbo tally coming when Timmins found Swank open and his shot found the back of the net. Ettinghausen added a goal late in the quarter followed by a York goal to finish the game 22-7.

Boyden and Bruun both led the way for Tufts with seven points. Boyden scored four goals and had three assists, while Bruun scored three times and had four assists. Christmas scored three goals while Tagliaferri added two goals and two assists for four points.

Regnery had two goals and an assist while Swank and Delcristo scored two goals. Ettinghausen and Timmins both added a goal and assist. Murtha and Frisoli both scored goals as well.
Kyle Adelmann caused four turnovers for Tufts and scooped up four ground balls with Ayers causing two turnovers and picking up three ground balls.
Mason Kohn dominated at the face-off "X," going 9-of-15 with seven ground balls for the Jumbos, with
Victor Salcedo going 8-of-15 with five ground balls. Garzone made 15 saves in net to earn the win.
Tufts out-shot the visitors 52-42 on the afternoon, while going a perfect 24 for 24 in clears.
For the Spartans, Harnick scored two goals while Ames Clark scored a goal and had an assist for two points. Jack Keller made 11 saves in net for York.

Next up for Tufts is the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals where they will host No. 11 Lynchburg at 2 P.M on Bello Field. next Saturday, May 20. The two teams faced off earlier this season on March 14 with the Jumbos winning 19-4.
