DEDHAM, MA (May 12, 2023) -- The Tufts University women's track and field squad finished the opening day of action at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships, hosted by Northeastern University.
The Jumbos got a pair of wins on the afternoon, highlighted by a massive performance in the high jump as senior All-American
Jaidyn Appel won the event by clearing a 1.77 meters, just shy of her personal best while setting a new top height in Division III.
Kelsie Hao also earned a victory in the pole vault, as she cleared 3.85 meters to tie her season-best height while earning the 10 points for the Jumbos. Teammate
Sarah Firth was right behind her in second place, as the sophomore got over the bar at 3.75 meters.
In the long jump,
Lia Rotti finished third overall with a mark of 5.73 meters to pick up six points, while Hao recorded a leap of 5.51 meters for ninth place.
Jordan Andrew was 15th in the long jump after posting a jump of 5.30 meters.
Sarah Pillone ran a 15.18 in the 100m hurdles to take 17th place in preliminaries, and
Emma Smith qualified for Saturday's 400m hurdles finals after taking eighth place with a time of 1:03.53.
Antonia Knoth was 15th in the 400m hurdles, running a 1:05.63, and
Emily Sverak posted a time of 1:07.68 as well.
In the women's 10000m,
Meghan Davis took sixth place after running a time of 37:45.50, and
Eliana Montgomery got under 40 minutes with a time of 39:28.12 to finish 12th place.
Saturday's action will start at 10 a.m. in the second and final day of action from Northeastern.
