WORCESTER, MA (May 12, 2023) – The Jumbo men's rowing team was third in the NESCAC Championship contested as part of the National Invitational Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond today.
The conference championship is determined by the results from the first varsity race at NIRC. The Jumbos were fourth overall in the grand final at a 5:55.148 finish, and were third behind Williams College (5:48.152) and Wesleyan University (5:53.666) in the NESCAC. Tufts had been second in its heat to make the grand final with a 6:15.732 time.

The Jumbos won the petite final in second varsity contest today. After a 6:33.731 mark was fifth in their heat, they earned a 6:04.505 victory in the petite final which was seventh overall.

Automatic berths into the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championship were earned by Williams and Wesleyan as the top two finishers in NESCAC. The Jumbos will look to receive an at-large invitation when they are announced next week.
For third varsity racing at NIRC today, Tufts was fifth with a 6:11.496 time in the grand final. They earned a spot there with a 6:33.902 finish that was second in their heat.

Tufts was the NIRC runner-up in the fourth varsity straight final, defeating teams from Williams and Wesleyan along the way. The Jumbo grand final time was 6:11.371, behind only the University of Michigan (6:07.617).
In the varsity 4+ competition, the Jumbos were first in their five-team heat at 7:01.987. They then finished third in the grand final at a 6:58.088 mark.
