NEW LONDON, CT (April 29, 2023) -- The Tufts University women's track and field squad got things off to a strong start on Friday evening at the 2023 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships, as the high jump and pole vault were moved to Friday due to impending rain at Silfen Track & Field Complex.
Kelsie Hao earned the NESCAC title in the pole vaults, as graduate student repeated as NESCAC champion as she cleared 3.65 meters (11-11.75') with fewer misses than teammate
Sarah Firth to earn the victory. Firth also cleared 3.65 meters (11-11.75') to finish second overall for eight points, while
Lia Rotti was fifth in the pole vault after getting over 3.55 meters on her final attempt.
Appel was also a NESCAC repeat champion in the high jump, as the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track and Field high jump champion cleared 1.70 meters (5-7) on her final attempt at the height to earn the victory.
Harper Meek also had a stellar evening for the Jumbos, taking fourth place with a huge personal-best jump of 1.62 meters. The junior cleared 1.42, 1.47 and 1.52 meters on her first attempt, and then got over 1.57 and 1.62 meters on her third and final attempt.
The Jumbos head into the second day of action at the NESCAC Championships leading Williams College with 37 points, as the Ephs have 12.5 points going into Saturday.
