SOMERVILLE, MA (April 22, 2023) --
Kelsie Hao established a new season-high in the long jump, winning the event in highlighting action for the Tufts University women's track and field squad at the Tufts Sunshine Classic on Ellis Oval Saturday. The Jumbos earned the team victory six other teams in attendance Saturday.
Hao won the long jump with a mark of 5.68 meters, posting the mark on her third jump of the afternoon. The mark was 11th best in the country in Division III after Saturday's action.
Sarah Firth won the pole vault on Saturday as she posted a season-best mark of 3.55 meters, as the mark was 32nd nationally.
On the track,
Sarah Pillone was second after preliminaries of the 100 meters with a 12.92, finishing fourth in the finals with a 13.06. In the 200 meter dash,
Annika Kral finished third to lead Tufts with a time of 26.37, also pacing Tufts in the 400 meter run with a time of 58.83.
Emma Sasonov was the victor in the 800 meters with a collegiate-best time of 2:21.77, while
Amelia Neiman was second with a new personal best of 2:22.63. Stephanie Mittaz added a third-place finish for the Jumbos with a time of 2:23.12.
Rose Kitz earned the win in the 1500 meter run with a 4:58.29, while
Lauren Pollak followed Kitz closely in second place after running a 5:04.03.
Lexi Quinn was the runner up in the 5000 meter run after posting a time of 19:18.31, and
Arianna Cozza took third with a personal-best time of 19:34.66.
Vivian Lau was a winner in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 42:14.07, while Pillone was the runner-up in the 100 hurdles after running a new personal-best of 14.73 seconds.
Emily Sverak also was a hurdles winner for the Jumbos in the 400 meter event, as she went 1-2 with
Campbell Devlin with a time of 1:06.82 while Devlin ran a 1:07.12.
Kate Bidgood was another winner for the Jumbos with a time of 12:13.56 in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Harper Meek was second in the high jump after clearing a mark of 1.57 meters on her third chance at the height.
Lia Rotti followed Firth in the pole vault for second place with a height of 3.40 meters, while
Nyla Thompson added a third-place finish in the event with a successful mark of 3.25 meters.
Rotti was a winner in the triple jump, starting the day with a winning mark of 11.65 meters. Elizabeth Graphy was fourth in the shot put after recording a mark of 9.66 meters, and
Ravyn Tammiruusu was second in the discus after recording a toss of 33.08 meters on her fifth and final recorded distance.
Elizabeth Graham was the winner in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 42.18 on her final throw od the day, while Tammiruusu established a new PR of 37.78 meters for third place.
In the javelin, Madelyn Silveira was third with a mark of 30.52 meters coming on her final toss of the afternoon.
Tufts earned the win with 329 points on Saturday, defeating Bridgewater State and its 147.5 points.
The Jumbos will turn their attention to Saturday's New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championships next Saturday, April 29 at 9 a.m. at Connecticut College.
