Women's Track & Field Posts Nine NCAA Top 50 Marks At Carla Coffey Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, MA (April 15, 2023) -- The Tufts University women's outdoor track and field team posted nine times or marks in the NCAA Division III Top 50 on Saturday, as the squad took third at the 2023 Carla Coffey Invitational. 

In the 400 meter hurdles, Emma Smith raced to a time of 1:03.44 to take fourth place Saturday. Her time was a new personal-best time, and it ranked No. 18 in the Division III. Antonia Knoth ran a new personal-best time as well in the 400 meter hurdles, taking fifth place as her time of 1:04.77 was 28th in Division III this spring. 

Senior Jaidyn Appel chalked up yet another victory in the high jump, soaring to a season-best height of 1.73 meters to re-establish the top mark in the nation to this point in the year. 

In the long jump, Lia Rotti earned the victory with a new season-best distance of 5.52 meters. The distance ranks her 23rd in the country. 

Rotti also won the triple jump after recording a mark of 11.65 meters on her first leap of the day, and Appel was second in the event with a new season-best mark of 11.35 meters to rank 31st nationally. 

The heptathlon finished up Saturday, and Madelyn Silveira finished third overall with a personal-best point total of 4,086 points. Silveira was second in the long jump with a mark of 4.96 meters, and also won the javelin throw with a new PR of 28.94 meters. 

The Tufts 4x400 meter relay took third overall Saturday as Campbell Devlin, Annika Kral, Knoth and Smith ran a 3:59.42, which ranks 21st in the country. 

In other action, Hannah Neilon picked up another win, as she chalked up a time of 4:37.51 in the 1500 meters to lead the way. In the 5000 meters, Meghan Davis scored for Tufts with an eighth-place finish, running an 18:41.45, and Sarah Pillone was third in the 100 meter hurdles after running a 15.38. 

Lexi Dean ran a new personal-best time in the steeplechase, crossing the line in 11:45.56 for third place, and first-year teammate Jaclyn Turner was right behind her in fourth place after running a season-best time of 11:49.72. 

Ravyn Tammiruusu had a very solid day in the discus, finishing third with a mark of 31.45 meters, and Lia Rotti won her third event of the day in the javelin with a toss of 36.63 meters. 

The Jumbos will host the Tufts Sunshine Classic next Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Ellis Oval in Somerville, MA.
