MEDFORD, MA (March 4, 2023) -- The Tufts University women's track and field squad hosted the Tufts National Qualifying Meet in Gantcher Field House Saturday, and
Sarah Pillone's effort in the 60m hurdles and distance medley relay highlighted a strong day of actionf for the Jumbos.
Pillone came into the meet and qualified for the finals in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.92 seconds as the No. 3 qualifiers. In the finals, Pillone ran a personal-best time of 8.88 seconds to take second place on the day. The time is ranked No. 28 in the NCAA Division III after Saturday's action, while the time ranks third all-time at Tufts. Also in the 60m hurdles,
Maddy Silveira ran a 9.33 in prelims and then chalked up a huge personal-best time in the finals of 9.17 seconds to take fourth place.
The women's distance medley relay also had a very strong afternoon, finishing fourth overall thanks to the efforts of
Lexi Dean,
Annika Kral,
Emma Smith and
Hannah Neilon after running an 11:56.44. The time was the eighth-fastest in program history, and currently ranks 17th nationally.
Jen Rotti registered a season-best mark in the triple jump of 11.36 meters, taking second-place on the day Saturday.
In the long jump,
Jordan Andrew was the runner-up after finishing with a mark of 5.42 meters, registering her final mark on the fifth jump of the day. Sophomore
Nyla Thompson was seventh in the pole vault on Saturday after clearing a mark of 3.36 meters, and
Elizabeth Donahue rank a 10:39.46 to take eight place in the 3000 meters.
First-year
Julia Dolce also was seventh in the 800 meters on Saturday, running a 2:19.69, and Silveira ran a new personal-best time of 8.10 seconds in the 60 meter dash. Also in the 60 meter dash,
Maya Ansbro ran an 8.33 to take 12th overall.
The Jumbos will find out NCAA Championships selections on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. on NCAA.com, as the NCAA Championships will take place March 10-11 in Birmingham, AL at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
