SAN DIEGO, CA (March 25, 2023) -- Tufts University finished its Spring Break trip out west Saturday afternoon, as the women's outdoor track and field squad competed at the 15th Annual Point Loma Nazarene University Track & Field Invitational.
A full contingent of Jumbos competed on Saturday, as
Lexi Dean started things off on the track with a sixth-place finish in the 1500 meter run after posting a time of 4:47.27. In the 100 hurdles,
Sarah Pillone finished with a 14.77 to finished third overall and
Teghan Sydnor rank a 17.17 for 20th place.
The 400 meter run saw
Annika Kral run a very strong time of 58.79 to post the ninth-best time in Division III this spring thus far.
Harper Meek finished in a time of 1:01.48 for 16th place, while
Anne-Sophie Janssen was 18th after crossing the line in 1:01.62. Teammate Emma Sasanov also was in the Top 20 after running a 1:01.81 for 19th place.
Julia Dolce continued her strong start to the spring season, taking fourth place in the women's 800 run with a time of 2:17.89, tied for the 12th best time in Division III so far.
Rose Kitz was 15th overall with a 2:24.54 as well in the 800 meters.
Emma Smith also ran a very strong time in the 400 meter hurdles, racing to a time of 1:04.96 for the eighth-best time in the country this spring so far. Teammate
Campbell Devlin also had a solid day, taking sixth place with a 1:05.83.
Emily Sverak was 11th after crossing the line in 1:08.22.
In the 5000 meters,
Eliana Montgomery was third after running an 18:50.05, and teammates
Gwenyth Stach and
Jaclyn Turner were fourth and fifth after logging times of 19:17.07 and 19:29.97, respectively.
The final event on the track Saturday was the 4x400 meter relay and Tufts "A" relay was second after Devlin, Kral, Janssen and Smith ran a 4:01.42, ranking fifth on the NCAA Division III performance list so far.
In the field events, Elizabeth Graham was very solid coming in as the runner up in the hammer throw with a toss of 41.31m.
Madeline Walters took 12th as well in the hammer with a toss of 31.73m.
Senior
Jaidyn Appel picked up yet another win in the high jump, as the NCAA National Champion from indoors recorded a height of 1.68 meters. Appel also competed in the triple jump, finishing fifth overall and first among Jumbo jumpers with a 10.84m leap.
Maelynn Ugokwe was seventh with a 10.52m, and
Tamia Dubidad also recorded a leap of 10.48m for eighth.
Nyla Thompson finished 11th in the pole vault after clearing 3.25 meters Saturday, while the pair of Walters and Graham were eighth and ninth in the discus. Walters posted a toss of 30.00m, while Graham was right behind her with a mark of 29.24m.
Tufts heads home and will host the 2023 Tufts Snowflake Classic this upcoming Saturday, April 1 at 10 a.m. from the Ellis Oval in Somerville.
