MEDFORD, MA (February 4, 2023) -- The Tufts University indoor women's track and field squad was able to top a strong field of 13 teams Saturday at the Tufts Cupid Challenge, scoring 151 total points while earning six wins on the day in competition of Gantcher Field House.
The field events were very strong for the Jumbos on Saturday, led by junior
Lia Rotti and sophomore
Sarah Firth. Rotti earned wins in both the long jump and triple jump as she finished with a mark of 5.37 meters in the long jump. She would post the same 5.37 meter distance on three of her six jumps. Rotti would return to the strip in the triple jump and tallied a distance of 11.78 meters for another 10 points for the Jumbos.
Firth would also earn the win in her event, finishing with a height of 3.60 meters in the pole vault. The Tufts 4x200 meter relay picked up a strong win, as
Annika Kral,
Nyla Thompson,
Anne-Sophie Janssen and
Teghan Sydnor raced to a time of 1:48.01. Junior
Lauren Pollak would also pick up a big win in the 3000 meter run, crossing the line in a season-best 10:35.02.
In the 400 meters, Kral posted a new season-best time of 59.08 to finish second overall. The Jumbos had five runners in the top seven in the 600 meter run, led by sophomore
Antonia Knoth, who finished with a new PR of 1:39.78 to take second place. First-year
Julia Dolce was third with a 1:41.11, and
Emily Sverak followed in fourth place with a time of 1:41.22.
Amelia Neiman earned fifth place in the 600 meters with a 1:41.56, while
Cora Kakalec also scored for Tufts with a 1:41.96 and seventh place.
Junior
Sarah Pillone ran a solid race in the 200 meter dash, posting a new personal best with a 27.35. Junior
Maddy Silveira ran an 8.23 in the preliminaries Saturday for a new personal-best time, and then followed that up with a time of 8.24 seconds for seventh place in the 60 meter dash. First-year
Grace Ogden recorded a new collegiate-best time in the 3000 meter run with a 10:42.33, while first-year
Jaclyn Turner ran a new collegiate-best time of 18:52.57 to finish third place.
Eliana Montgomery also ran a collegiate-best time of 18:52.95 for fourth place.
Pillone was first in preliminaries in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.08 seconds, but ran a time of 9.12 seconds in the finals to earn third place. Sydnor was sixth in the finals after recording a time of 9.26 seconds.
Jen Rotti was sixth in both the long and triple jump on Saturday, with marks of 5.10 meters in the long jump and 10.65 meters in the triple jump.
Sophomore Elizabeth Graham posted a new personal-best mark in the weight throw, finishing third after a toss of 13.70 meters on her second throw of the day.
The Jumbos weill travel to the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational Friday and Saturday, February 10-11, also competing at the Gordon Kelley Invitational at MIT next Saturday, February 11.
