BOSTON, MA (February 3, 2023) -- Senior middle distance standout
Hannah Neilon finished what she started on Thursday in preliminaries, coming into the 800 meter finals Finals as the top seed at the 2023 NEICAAA Indoor Championships and won the event with a time of 2:14.52 to highlight action at The TRACK at New Balance.
Neilon came into Friday's finals seeded first after running a 2:14.45 on Thursday, and just nipped Hanna O'Connor of University of Rhode Island at the tape as she came in second with a 2:14.91. Neilon led after the first 200 meters, and was in a three-way battle after 400 meters with O'Connor and Ashley Dana of Central Connecticut State University. The third lap saw another runner, Fiona Doherty of Holy Cross, join the fray to have four battling for the victory. In the final 800 meters, Doherty and Dana fell off some and Neilon just was able to edge O'Connor for the win.
In other action on Friday,
Sarah Pillone qualified for finals in the 60 meter hurdles as she posted a season and personal-best time of 9.10 seconds to rank seventh heading to the finals in the afternoon. Pillone bested her previous fastest time of 9.13 seconds as she was second in her heat to Lauren Triarsi of the University of Vermont who ran a time of 8.95 seconds. In the finals, Pillone moved up a spot as she continued her fine day with another PR of 9.07 seconds for sixth place. All five runners in front of her were from Division I schools, while Pillone's time is currently No. 26 in the country.
Also in the 60 meter hurdles, first-year
Teghan Sydnor ran a time of 9.50 seconds to finish 19th in the preliminary round, taking second in her heat.
The Jumbo women's squad will be right back in action Saturday morning, hosting the Tufts Cupid Challenge in Gantcher Field House at 10 a.m.
