BOSTON (February 25, 2023) --
Lia Rotti won the triple jump,
Hannah Neilon won the 800 meters while
Jaidyn Appel earned a victory in the high jump as the Tufts University women's track & field squad finished second as a squad at the 2023 New England Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted at The TRACK at New Balance.
Rotti finished her big weekend with another huge day on Saturday, as she earned the win in the triple jump with a mark of 12.10 meters on her third leap of the afternoon. Rotti picked up 10 points in the event. Appel would finished third in the triple jump with a 11.45 meter leap to pick up six points, and junior
Sarah Pillone was sixth in the event with a jump of 11.20 meters.
Appel would continue her winning ways in the high jump, earning the title in the high jump after clearing five heights on the first attempt. On her fifth height of 1.72, she cleared the bar with room to spare to clinch the victory. Neilon was the third victor of the afternoon for the Jumbos, as she edged MIT's Julia Howarth at the line, winning by 0.01 seconds to pick up the victory and 10 points.
In the 60m hurdles, Pillone raced to a fourth-place finish in the finals with a 9.03 while
Teghan Sydnor picked up a sixth-place finish in a time of 9.13 seconds.
Maddy Silveira also took eighth in the 60 hurdles after running a 9.50.
The Jumbos saw some strong performances in the 600 meters, as
Campbell Devlin ran a personal-best time of 1:37.19 to finish third overall. Emma smith was seventh in the 600 meters as well, picking up two points with a 1:38.06. Junior
Emily Sverak also finished with a personal-best time of 1:38.63 for 10th place.
In the 200 meter dash, Sydnor ran a new personal-best of 26.06 to finish 11th, while
Annika Kral added a new PR of 58.07 in the 400 meters for fourth place.
Lexi Dean would take sixth place in the 1000 meter run with a new PR of 3:00.69, and
Elizabeth Donahue led the contingent in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:26.66 for a new PR.
In the relays, Tufts finished the 4x400 meter relay in fifth place after running a time of 4:00.75. In the 4x800 meter relay,
Julia Dolce, Dean, Stephanie Mittz and Neilon took sixth with a time of 9:34.97.
Elizabeth Graham finished 25th overall in the weight throw with a mark of 12.35 meters. Williams College was the Championships winner on the team side with 127.33 points, eding Tufts and its 108 points. MIT was third with 89.50 points, while Middlebury College and Amherst College were fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Jumbos will host the Tufts National Qualifying Meet next Saturday at 11 a.m. in Gantcher Field House.
