CAMBRIDGE, MA (February 11, 2023) -- The Tufts University indoor women's track and field squad competed in a pair of events on Saturday, with the full squad in action at the MIT Gordon Kelly Invitational while the distance medley ran at the 2023 Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Tufts competed as a whole squad at BU on Friday evening.
Starting with the DMR at BU Saturday, the squad ran against almost exclusively Division I competition as it finished 23rd overall with a time of 12:05.20 thanks to a combined effort by
Lexi Dean,
Emma Smith,
Julia Dolce and
Hannah Neilon. Tufts was the sixth-best Division III team in the field.
The Jumbos saw a full team at MIT Saturday afternoon with some strong performances for the team. In the 60 meter dash,
Sarah Pillone, Maddy Silviera and
Maya Ansbro all qualified for the finals as Pillone ran a personal-best time of 8.10 in the preliminaries. Pillone ran an 8.15 in the finals for fourth place, Siivera's 8.16 in prelims was a personal-best as well and Ansbro ran an 8.27 in the finals for a new PR.
In the 400 meter run,
Hannah Fraser finished third with a new PR of 1:03.90, while first-year Emma Sasanov finished sixth overall in a time of 1:05.58. Junior
Harper Meek finished seventh in the 600 meters with a 1:43.21, and first-year
Paige Zhang was the runner-up in the 1000 meter run with a new time of 3:22.95. Senior
Kate Bidgood was third in the mile with a 5:33.10, and first-year
Vivian Lau booked a time of 5:40.31 for sixth place.
Sophomore Geri Tabbachino recorded a new PR of 11:31.96 in the 3000 meter run, and Silveira ran a new PR of 9.58 in the 60 hurdles for third place.
In the pole vault,
Sarah Firth posted a new season-best mark of 3.65 meters, the 16th-best height of the season in Division III as she won the jump-off after clearing 3.65 on her first attempt.
Lia Rotti also finished with a height of 3.45 meters for the 38th best height in the nation this season, taking fifth place Saturday.
In the long jump, Rotti took third place with a leap of 5.45 meters, while sophomore
Jordan Andrew recorded a mark of 5.40 meters for fourth place, moving into the nation's top 50 at No. 48.
Pillone was third in the triple jump thanks to a mark of 10.82 meters on her sixth and final attempt, and first-year
Tamia Dubidad was fifth overall after recording a 10.28 meter mark.
The Jumbos will be in action Saturday, February 18 at 10 a.m. at Springfield College for the Springfield Triangle Classic.
