MEDFORD, MA (January 21, 2023) -- The Tufts University women's track and field squad finished the second day of action at the Tufts Branwen Smith-King Invitational, performing well in competition from Gantcher Field House Saturday.
In the short sprints, junior
Maya Ansbro started the day in prelims with a 8.40 in the 60 meter dash and then bested that time in the finals to finish third after running a new personal-best time of 8.36.
Tamia Dubidad was fourth in the 60 meter finals with an 8.37 and
Jordan Andrew was seventh in finals after running an 8.44. In the 200 meter dash, first-year
Teghan Sydnor was exceptional in taking second place with a time of 26.94. Sophomore
Annika Kral was third in the 200 meters with a time of 27.20, and junior
Jaidyn Appel ran a personal-best time of 27.80 for fifth place.
The Jumbos would dominate the 600 meter run with four runners in the top five, including senior
Hannah Neilon racing to the victory with a 1:37.54. Sophomore
Emma Smith was runner-up after recording a new personal-best time of 1:38.02, and junior
Campbell Devlin was was third in a time of 1:39.92. Sophomore
Antonia Knoth also finished fifth with a new PR of 1:40.93. Junior Stephanie Mittaz was the runner-up in the 800 meters as well, after posting a time of 2:26.17.
In the mile,
Eleanor Tyne ran to a new collegiate-best time of 5:22.06 for second place and teammate
Rose Kitz was just behind her with a 5:25.32 for third place. In the 3000 meter run, first-year
Lexi Dean was third with a 10:45.15 followed by fellow first-year
Jaclyn Turner in seventh place with a 10:56.07.
One of the big events for Tufts Saturday was in the 60 meter hurdles, as Sydnor finished second in the finals with a time of 9.37. The time was the seventh-best in Tufts history in the 60 meter hurdles, and is 28th in the nation after today's action. Tufts 4x400 relay earned the win with the 26th best time in the country this season, as Devlin, Kral, Knoth and Smith raced to a 4:08.11.
The high jump saw another win for Appel, as she cleared five heights before going out with a final mark of 1.72 meters (5' 7.75"). The height is the best in the country this season, as she chases her career-high of 5' 9.25". In the pole vault,
Nyla Thompson was fourth after getting over a height of 3.15 meters, and first-year
Amelie Wickham was fifth after clearing 3.00 meters.
In the triple jump, Andrew earned the victory after recording a top 50 distance in the country with a mark of 10.97 meters.
The shot put event saw Elizabeth Graham take eight place with a mark of 9.71 meters, with the final distance coming on the fourth throw of the day and first of final. Graham was fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 12.73 meters, and sophomore
Ravyn Tammiruusu recorded a new PR of 11.92 meters.
The Jumbos will compete in the two-day Boston University Thomas Terrier Classic January 27-28, before also competing in the New England Small College Invitational, hosted by Middlebury College at The Track at New Balance in Brighton, MA.
