MEDFORD, MA (January 21, 2023) – In exciting action at Tufts' Hamilton Pool today, the Jumbo women's swimming & diving team edged local rival MIT 151-149.
In the most recent College Swimming Coaches Association of America Division III poll, MIT was #6 and Tufts was at #8. The Jumbos clinched today's win with a victory in the final event.

Katelin Ulmer won the 200 freestyle relay in a 1:36.27 time.
The Jumbos would win nine of the 16 events overall to nip the Engineers. They were led by
Claire Brennan who was first in the 200 freestyle (1:53.58) and the 500 freestyle (5:05.93).
The meet had started with an indication of how close the contest would be. In the 200 medley relay,
Gaurika Singh,
Quinci Wheeler, Klinginsmith and Ulmer from Tufts were second with a 1:47.22 time. MIT's winning time was 1:47.16.
Tufts senior
Allison Cremer then delivered a winning margin of over six seconds in the 1,000 freestyle with a 10:41.56 time. Brennan's 200 free victory followed, which led five Tufts finishers in the top six for the event. Then the Jumbos took the second through fifth places in the 100 backstroke. Singh led with a second-place 59.69 time.
Wheeler was second in the 100 breaststroke at 1:07.34 before Isakoff led a first through fourth finish for Tufts in the 200 butterfly with her 2:07.91 touch.
Lara Wujciak (2:09.93),
Chloe Deveney (2:11.05) and
Esme Blackstock (2:11.81) followed.
Ulmer also had a 24.30 victory in the 50 freestyle, out-dueling MIT's Sophia Yau (24.63) and teammate
Jillian Cudney (24.76). In one-meter diving, the Jumbos went 1-2 with
Sydney Ho's 305.99 score winning and
Malia Leung earning runner-up at 294.00.
Isakoff in the 100 free (53.29),
Madeleine Dunn in the 200 backstroke (2:07.86) and Ulmer in the 200 breaststroke (2:27.39) had consecutive second-place swims for the Jumbos, who flexed their depth in the events. Tufts took five of the top seven 100 freestyle spots, were four of the first six in the 200 back and had five of the leading seven finishers in the 200 breast.
Brennan won the 500 free by over five seconds. MIT then closed the gap when they had the top three in the 100 butterfly, where
Sora Sohn was fourth for Tufts with a 59.24 mark.
Alaina Kosko earned a 286.20 score for third in three-meter diving, where the Engineers earned the top two scores.
In the second-to-last event, the Jumbos had the second through fourth finishers in the 200 individual medley.
Tory Atkinson led the hosts as the second-place finisher (2:10.99).
In the 200 free relay to win the meet, Tufts was first by a fingernail with Ulmer swimming a 23.32 anchor split to finish the Jumbos at 1:36.27 to MIT's 1:36.36.
Tufts will next compete at Hamilton College along with RPI next Saturday.
