MEDFORD, MA (January 20, 2023) -- Junior
Maddy Silveira finished third overall in the pentathlon, as the first of two days of action from the Tufts Branwen Smith-King Invitational concluded from Gantcher Field House Friday evening.
Silveira tallied 2656 points to take third place, finishing behind only Emma Wheeler of Connecticut College and her 2943 points and Katherine Kempff of MIT (2865). Silveira started the event with a second-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles, running a 9.76 for 758 points.
Silveira would pick up 429 points in the high jump after clearing 1.32 meters, and followed that up with a throw of 7.55 meters in the shot put to take sixth out of nine competitors for 370 points. The junior would record a mark of 4.70 meters in the long jump to finish fourth in the event, racking up 479 more points heading into the final event of the competition.
In the 800 meter run, Silveira finished with a bang as she won the event with a time of 2:35.93 for 620 points. Her win helped her stave off Elizabeth Korn from Brandeis, who finished fourth overall with 2635 points.
Day two of the Tufts Branwen Smith-King Invitational starts Saturday morning at 9 a.m. in Gantcher Field House.
