LEWISTON, ME (January 20, 2023) -- The No. 8 Tufts University women's swimming and diving team won nine events Friday night, including two each from
Lily Klinginsmith,
Katelin Isakoff and
Malia Leung as the Jumbos defeated Bates College 159-67 from Tarbell Pool.
After finishing second in the 400 medley relay to start the meet, Tufts went 1-2 in the 1000 freestyle as
Madeleine Dunn won the event with a time of 10:20.62.
Cierra McCarty posted a new season-best in the event with a 10:44.47 for second place and four more points.
The 200 freestyle was next and Tufts earned the top four spots in the race, highlighted by Isakoff and her time of 1:54.85 for first place.
Chloe Deveney was second with a 1:56.86, followed by
Katharine Skelly and
Jillian Cudney with times of 1:57.94 and 1:58.98, respectively.
In the 50 freestyle,
Katelin Ulmer would earn the victory with a solid time of 23.90, and
Elle Morse was third after swimming a 24.68.
Isa Chambers was fifth with a 24.83, while
Claire Brennan raced to fifth place and a time of 25.00.
In the 100 IM, Klinginsmith recorded a new personal-best time with a 58.88 for first place, and
Tory Atkinson took runner-up honors after posting a time of 1:00.83.
In the 50 butterfly, Tufts dominated as it took the top six positions led by Isakoff and her time of 26.70.
Esme Blackstock was right behind her teammate in second with a 26.74, while Jade Foltenyi took third with a 26.80.
Hannah Lesser was also fourth with a time of 26.83.
In the 100 freestyle,
Quinci Wheeler finished touched the wall in second place after recording a time of 53.70. Klinginsmith was the winner again in the 50 backstroke, swimming a personal-best time of 26.95. Chambers was second with a 28.07, and
Gaurika Singh was third after racing to a 28.32.
The 400 freestyle saw Brennan and
Allison Cremer finish 1-2, as Brennan recorded a time of 4:01.88. Cremer was second after booking a time of 4:06.89, and
Allison Brea was fifth after swimming a time of 4:16.39.
Tufts would see Ulmer take second in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 30.26, and Wheeler was second right behind Ulmer with a 30.75. Morse took home fourth place in 31.33, and
Abby Miller swam a 31.95 for fifth place.
The diving events saw
Malia Leung earn wins in both the 1M and 3M, as she posted 269.01 points in the six-dive 1M event to earn the victory.
Alaina Kosko was second with 250.57 points, while
Sydney Ho also recorded 229.86 points for third place.
In the 3M event, Leung chalked up 279.60 points for the win while Kosko and Ho were once again second and third with 275.33 and 262.27 points, respectively.
Tufts will have a quick turnaround, returning home Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. to take on MIT at 1 p.m. in Hamilton Pool.
