MEDFORD - The 16th ranked Tufts University women's squash team was defeated 9-0 by top ranked Harvard University during their home opener on Tuesday night.
No. 1 Harvard improves to 2-0 on the season and continues an 85 match winning streak, extending their CSA record. The Jumbos are now 3-1 on the season.
Tufts senior Natalie Bartlett competed in the eighth position and posted the first scores of the night with a 3-0 loss (5-11, 2-11, 6-11) to the Crimson's Grace Steelman. Sophomore Caroline Chin, freshman Aleezha Burhan and freshmen Ellie Ackerman also turned in competitive 3-0 losses in the second, fourth, and seventh positions. Harvard's Evie Coxon sealed the victory for the Crimson with a three game victory over sophomore Santana Vissapragada in the third slot (11-3, 11-4, 11-5). Freshman Nieve Monderer (pictured) was impressive while pushing the only 4 set match of the day with her 9-11, 5-11, 11-6, 10-12 loss in the 5th position. Sophomore Ami Sao, freshman Riddhi Joshi, and senior Diya Sanghi in the ninth, first, and sixth positions, respectively, rounded out the evening with competitive three set losses.
The Jumbos return to action this weekend when they play host to two NESCAC opponents. On Friday, Dec. 3, the Jumbos face No. 15 Bates College before wrapping up the weekend with No. 12 Williams College on Sunday at 3pm. Harvard returns home tomorrow, Dec. 1, to host No. 11 Dartmouth College at 5pm.
