CAMBRIDGE – The 17th-ranked Tufts University women's squash team rolled to an 8-1 NESCAC victory over #28 Bowdoin College on Saturday afternoon at Harvard University.
The Jumbos posted seven of their eight victories in straight sets as they improved to 4-2 overall in their final match of the fall semester. Bowdoin, who was headed to a match at Northeastern after this one, fell to a 2-3 record.
Three Jumbos allowed single-figure points in their three-set victories today. In the #9 match, freshman Abhilasha Bhasin won the first two games by 11-0 scores before closing out the win with an 11-3 third set victory. Junior Rachel Windreich had was nearly as stingy with an 11-3, 11-1, 11-0 victory in the sixth match. In the eighth match, junior Radhika Joshi won by an 11-1, 11-4, 11-4 final score.
The most competitive contest was at #4 where Tufts sophomore Megan Chen defeated Bowdoin's Sophie Barber 11-7, 11-5, 11-13, 12-10. The top match between Jumbo senior co-captain Claire Davidson and Bowdoin's Caroline Glaser was a good three-set match won by Davidson 11-5, 12-10, 11-7.
Tufts' other wins came at #3 by senior co-captain Catherine Shanahan (11-3, 11-6, 11-6), #5 where sophomore Diya Sanghi won 11-1, 11-3, 11-7 and at #7 with sophomore Natalie Bartlett earning an 11-4, 11-7, 11-3 final.
The lone victory by the Polar Bears was in the second match where Clio Bersani defeated Tufts' Isa Schneider 11-3, 11-2, 11-8.
The Jumbos will travel to play Stanford next on January 8.
