CAMBRIDGE – The second-ranked Harvard University women's squash team earned a 9-0 victory over #17 Tufts in the final regular-season match of the 2018-19 season for the Jumbos at the Murr Center Courts on Tuesday.
The Crimson remained undefeated at 5-0, having won all five of their matches by 9-0 scores. The Jumbos dropped to 8-5 overall.
Tufts junior Claire Davidson had the best showing with an 11-8, 11-7, 11-5 loss to Harvard freshman Amina Yousry. Jumbo junior Catherine Shanahan totaled 19 points in her 11-5, 11-7, 11-7 loss to Hannah Craig at #5.
Jumbos Julie Yeung at #2 and Chloe Kantor at #8 both scored 17 points in their three-game losses.
Harvard's Sophie Mehta had the most convincing win 11-3, 11-2, 11-2 in the fourth match.
College Squash Association Howe Cup winners as the national championship team four years in a row (2015-18), Harvard increased its win streak to 57 games, dating back to the 2014-15 season. Eleonore Evans, Sophie Mehta and Hannah Craig, who started for Harvard when they defeated Trinity 9-0 to win the national title last February, each played for Harvard against Tufts today.
Tufts is off until traveling to Hartford for the 2019 NESCAC Championships at Trinity February 8-10. Harvard plays at #1 ranked Princeton on Saturday.
