CAMBRIDGE – In the second round of the Walker Cup at the College Squash Association Team Nationals at Harvard the No. 18 Tufts women's squash team fell to No. 19 Bates, 7-2.
With the setback the Jumbos now play Wesleyan in the third place match of the Walker Cup on Sunday at 9 am at Harvard.
Freshman Chloe Kantor won a four game battle in the seventh position, topping Molly Brooks, 11-6, 11-6, 10-12, 11-6. The second Jumbo win came from senior Lauren Banner in the ninth position, as she topped Cata Robert in three games, 11-5, 11-4, 11-1.
In the first position freshman Juile Yeung fell in one of the closest matches of the day in the first position, falling in five games to Kristyna Alexova, 4-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-8. In the third position junior Zarena Jafry was bested in four games by Victoria Arjoon, 11-13, 11-4, 11-9, 11-6. Freshman Rachel Windreich won the second game in extra points, but wasn't able to win another as Katherine Manternach won in four games in the sixth position, 11-7, 11-13, 11-2, 11-8.
In the second position sophomore Claire Davidson fell in three games to Luca Polgar, 11-7, 11-7, 11-7. Sophomore Catherine Shanahan was bested be Eliza Dunham in three games, 11-7, 11-6, 11-3. Junior Hannah Burns took the first game to extra points but wasn't able to sneak out a win in the fifth position, falling to Maeve O'Brien, 14-12, 11-7, 11-7. Rounding out the Jumbos lineup was junior Sahana Karthik, who lost to Katie Bull, 11-8, 11-5, 11-7.
The match against Wesleyan on Sunday morning will wrap up the Jumbos 2017-18 campaign.
