CAMBRIDGE – The No. 19 Tufts women's squash team took on No. 1 ranked Harvard on the road on Saturday, but the Jumbos weren't able to upset the Crimson, falling 9-0.
The Jumbos are now 9-3 overall this year. Harvard improves to 5-0 overall this season. In their four matches in January, the Crimson have not lost in one position, picking up four 9-0 wins.
Freshman Julie Yeung took on Georgina Kennedy in the first position but fell, 11-3, 11-4, 11-2. In the second position sophomore Claire Davidson battled Kayley Leonard but wasn't able to win, 11-5, 11-2, 11-3. Junior Zarena Jafry faced off with Alyssa Mehta in the third position, but lost, 11-0, 11-6, 11-1.
In the fourth position junior Hannah Burns and Amelia Henley faced off and Henley won, 11-1, 11-4, 11-1. Taking the court in the fifth position freshman Rachel Windreich fell to Eleonore Evans, 11-4, 11-3, 11-4. Sophomore Catherine Shanahan fell to Sophie Mehta in the sixth position, 11-2, 11-0, 11-4.
Senior Lauren Banner played Hannah Craig in the seventh position, but lost in three games, 11-2, 11-4, 11-3. In the eighth position, junior Sahana Karthik battled Annika Engstrom but wasn't able to win, 11-5, 11-2, 11-6. Junior Chista Irani played the closest match of the day in the ninth position, falling to Olivia Chapman, 11-7, 11-4, 11-6.
The Jumbos are back in action on Friday when they travel to Bates for a 7 pm start. Harvard plays again Sunday when they host Stanford at 11:30 am.
