CAMBRDIGE – The No. 18 Tufts women's squash team took on top ranked Harvard on Friday afternoon, and the Jumbos suffered their first loss of the season. The Crimson were able to come away with a 9-0 victory.
The loss was the first of the season for the Jumbos, as they are now 12-1 this season. The Crimson, who are ranked No. 1 in the College Squash Association national poll are a perfect 6-0 this season after the win.
Freshman Claire Davidson took the courts in the first position for the first time this season, but she fell to Alyssa Mehta in three games, 11-9, 11-5, 11-3. Mehta finished last season ranked No. 10 in the individual women's rankings. In the second position, sophomore Hannah Burns fell to Katie Tutrone, 11-2, 11-4, 11-1. Rookie Catherine Shanahan played in the third position, but was topped by Sue Ann Yong, 11-2, 11-2, 11-1. In the fourth position, sophomore Sahana Karthik fell to Sophie Mehta in three games, 11-1, 11-5, 11-6.
Junior Lauren Banner fell to Eleonore Evans in the fifth position, 11-1, 11-5, 11-6. In the sixth position, sophomore Olivia Ladd-Luthringhauser fell to Dileas MacGowan, 11-4, 11-5, 11-3. Freshman Sahar Tirmizi took Caroline Monrad to extra points in the third game, but fell in the seventh position, 11-6, 11-5, 12-10. Playing in the eighth position, sophomore Chista Irani took on Keegan Mendez but fell, 11-2, 11-8, 11-3. Rounding out the Jumbos line up was sophomore Sinclair Meggitt, who took on Annika Engstrom but fell, 11-2, 11-6, 11-8.
The Jumbos have a busy weekend as they are back in action on Saturday when they host No. 28 Connecticut College at the Belmont Hill School at 1 pm. Sunday brings a trip to Maine to take on No. 25 Colby and No. 15 Bates.
