BELMONT – The No. 22 women's squash team opened up their 2016-17 season on Friday night with an 8-1 win over Boston College at the Belmont Hill School. The Jumbos won in the second through the ninth positions.
The Jumbos are now 1-0 this season with a busy weekend ahead of them. They take on No. 19 Colby on Saturday at 6:30 pm and close out their weekend with matches against Bryant and Brandeis on Sunday.
Freshman Claire Davidson picked up her first collegiate win in the second position for the Jumbos with a win over the Eagles' Carlie Ladda, 11-4, 11-7, 11-4. Classmate Catherine Shanahan followed that with her first collegiate win in the third position over Boston College's Grace Lavoie, 11-2, 11-2, 11-1. Sophomore Sahana Karthik took the courts in the fourth position and picked up a win over Sara Rimmler, 11-6, 11-8, 11-6.
In the fifth position junior Lauren Banner allowed her Eagle opponent to score just nine points across three games in an 11-1, 11-2, 11-6 win. Sophomore Olivia Ladd-Luthringhauser was able to win over Grace Tregidgo in three games, 11-4, 11-5, 11-8. In the seventh position sophomore Sinclaire Meggit won over Chloe Sirui S. Cheng, 11-6, 11-4, 11-3.
Another rookie picked up her first win in the eighth position, as Katie Deveaux won over Paige Hanauer, 11-8, 5-11, 11-9, 11-8. Sophomore Isabella Libassi rounded out the Jumbos lineup with a three game win in the ninth position, 11-2, 11-3, 11-2.
The lone win for the Eagles came in the first position, as Christina McLaughlin edged Hannah Burns, 11-4, 11-2, 9-11, 5-11, 11-7.
The match was the first of four this weekend for the Jumbos. They will take on Colby at MIT tomorrow at 6:30 pm.
