BRUNSWICK, ME - The Tufts University men's lacrosse team used a 6-0 run spanning the second and third quarters to pull away from Bowdoin, 15-9, in the final game of the regular season Wednesday evening at Ryan Field.

Ben Andreycak tallied a goal and four assists for the Jumbos

The sixth-ranked Jumbos improve to 13-2 (8-2 NESCAC) and will be the second seed for the upcoming conference tournament. Bowdoin finishes their year with a record of 3-12 (2-8 NESCAC), missing out on postseason play.

The Tufts combination of Zach Richman and Peter Gill proved too much for Bowdoin on Wednesday as each scored five goals in the victory. Ben Andreycak sparked the Jumbos' offense with a goal and four assists. Bowdoin was led by three goals and an assist from senior David Nemirov in the loss.

Tied at 3-3 early in the second quarter, Tufts scored four times in a two-minute span late in the period to take a 7-3 lead at the break. Cole Bailey started the run that included goals from Jake Gillespie, Gill and Richman. Richman and Andreycak opened the third quarter with scores for the visitors, who outscored Bowdoin 5-2 in the third quarter and stretched their lead to as many as nine goals, 14-5, early in the fourth quarter.

The Polar Bears attempted to muster a late rally, scoring four straight times courtesy of Nemirov, Matthew Crowell, Rob Talcott and Shawn Daly to trim the gap to 14-9, but could get no closer over the final five minutes.

Alex Salazar made six saves in net for Tufts, who got a caused turnover and a team-high six ground balls from Cem Kalkavan. Bowdoin's Peter Mumford played the first 59:39 in net, making 17 saves. Senior Connor Laughlin played the final 21 seconds without being tested. Senior Mac Caputi had team highs with three caused turnovers and five ground balls.

Thanks to a 14 of 16 effort from Conor Helfrich, Tufts won 22 of 28 face-offs on the night. Bowdoin went 2-5 with the extra man while Tufts went 1-4.

The Jumbos will play #7 seed Hamilton in the quarterfinal round of the NESCAC Tournament on Saturday at Bello Field starting at 1 pm.
