Galbiati Leads Softball Over Bates in Circle and at Plate for Tourney Clinching Win

Box Score

BRUNSWICK, ME - First-year pitcher Raina Galbiati allowed just one hit in five innings as the #1 ranked Tufts Softball team finally completed its NESCAC East series against Bates College with a 13-0 win in a game played at Bowdoin College on Sunday morning.

First-year Raini Galbiati retired 13 straight Bates hitters to end the game

Game dates on March 27-28 and April 5 were postponed before the teams played a pair at Tufts last Sunday (Apr. 12). The Jumbos won those contests 8-0 and 8-5, and today's victory gives them a three-game series sweep. Tufts is now 26-0 and 8-0 in the NESCAC East. The Bobcats dropped to 3-17 and 1-7 in the division.

The victory clinches a spot in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament for the Jumbos.

Tufts scored six runs in the first inning and seven in the second to make quick work of the Bobcats. They finished with 13 hits in the five innings.

The Jumbos had seven hits in the first inning, with Galbiati helping herself with a two-run single. She had another rbi single in the second, while junior SS Christina Raso and senior 3B Bri Keenan added two-run base hits for the Jumbos.

Galbiati allowed a two-out single to Kira Shaikh in the first inning. She retired the next 13 Bobcats to finish the game. She was 2 for 3 with three ribs and a run at the plate.

Keenan finished 2 for 2 with two runs and two rbis for Tufts. Senior 2B Gracie Marshall was 2 for 3 and scored two runs, while first-year DP Raven Fournier was 2 for 3 with a run and first-year RF Michelle Chisdak scored twice. Senior CF Michelle Cooprider had two rbis and two runs while sophomore 1B Cassie Ruscz scored twice.

The Jumbos remain at Bowdoin to play a single game with the Polar Bears starting at noon. A victory would clinch the NESCAC East pennant for Tufts. Bowdoin has also sewn up one of the East's two berths into the conference championship.
