WELLESLEY – The #19 Tufts women's tennis team picked up a 2-1 lead in doubles play and won five of six singles matches in a 7-2 win over local rival Wellesley on Friday afternoon.
The win snapped a three match losing streak for the Jumbos, who will look to continue with that momentum when they resume conference play Saturday when they host Connecticut College.
Wellesley picked up the first win in doubles play at No. 1 doubles as Sojung Lee and Carina Chen topped the Jumbo duo of sophomores Alexa Meltzer and Conner Calabro, 8-4. The Jumbos then won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take a 2-1 lead going into singles play.
At No. 2 doubles first-year Lauren Louks and sophomore Jaqueline Baum battled the Blue's Dasha Kostikina and Samantha Stone and came out on top, 9-8(2). The other win was also a close one, and came at No. 3 doubles as first-years Aandrita Deb and Zoe Miller topped Andjela Stojkovic and Emily Olson, 9-7.
In singles play the Blue once again won at No. 1 singles as Lee topped Meltzer in two sets. The Jumbos won in the No. 2 through No. 6 singles positions. At No. 2 singles, Calabro won in two sets.
At No. 3 singles Louks picked up a two set win over Caroline Hsu. Baum took the courts at No. 4 singles and picked up a win over Stone in two sets. At No. 5 singles, Olson fell to the Jumbo's Miller. The last win for the Jumbos came at No. 6 singles as Deb picked up a two set win over Kostikina.
The Jumbos take the courts again on Saturday when they host Connecticut College. They will then travel to Williams on Sunday for an 11:00 am start.
