Women's Sailing Takes Seventh Place at Coast Guard's Veitor Co-ed Event

NEW LONDON, CT - Competing in a co-ed field, the Tufts women's sailing team's starting dingy finished seventh among 20 teams at Coast Guard's Veitor Trophy on Saturday and Sunday.

The Jumbos had sophomore skipper MaryClaire Kiernan with junior crew Amanda Sommi in A division and senior skipper Kate Levinson with senior crew Emily Lynn in B's. They finished with an 84 score, accumulating finishes totaling 39 in A's and 45 in B's.

Five races were contested in the A and B divisions. The Tufts A boat was seventh in the division and had a best finish of fourth in the fifth start. The Jumbo B's were eighth in the division including a runner-up finish in the second race.

Tufts had a second team in the regatta as well. Junior skipper Kate Shaner raced with sophomore crew Julia Fuller in A's. First-year skipper Molly Pleskus competed with men's team freshman Julien Guiot as crew for the B races. They were 11th overall with a 47-49-96 score. The A's had a best showing of third in the third race, while the B's recorded a runner-up effort in the fourth start.
