WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – First-year Aandrita Deb of the women's tennis team finished in the top four of the singles bracket at the ITA Regional Championships this weekend. Deb was eliminated from play on Sunday morning by Juli Raventos of Williams, 6-4, 6-2.
Deb won four matches over the course of the weekend to finish in the top four. In the opening round of play on Friday, Deb defeated Jenny Quenard of Babson, 6-0, 6-3. She then beat Kaysee Orozco of Middlebury, 7-5, 6-4.
On Saturday Deb continued to bring home the wins, knocking off Melita Ferjanic of Trinity, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Next up was Vickie Ip of Amherst. The two had quite the battle, but Deb came out on top, 7-6(9-7), 6-7(7-9), 6-2.
There were 64 total participants in the singles bracket of the tournament. The top eight are given seeds in the tournament one through eight. The ninth through 16 seeds are given in no particular order. Deb was seeded 9-16 to start play.
This was the first tournament of the fall season for the Jumbos. They will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Babson for a 3:00 pm match.
