Women's Tennis' Deb and Louks Advance in Singles Bracket of ITA Regional Championships

Lauren Louks won two matches at the ITA Regional Championships Friday.

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Tufts women's tennis team opened their fall season at the ITA Regional Championships hosted by Williams College this weekend, and new faces earned some big wins for the Jumbos.  Rookies Aandrita Deb and Lauren Louks have both won two matches in the singles bracket and will resume play Saturday.

In the opening round of play, Deb defeated Jenny Quenard of Babson, 6-0, 6-3.  She then beat Kaysee Orozco of Middlebury, 7-5, 6-4.  Next up for Deb will be Melita Ferjanic of Trinity.  The winner of that match will play the winner of the match between Vickie Ip of Amherst and Carley Cooke.

Fellow classmate Louks had a similar day.  A 6-1, 6-0 win over Jordin Dubin of Smith started the day.  Louks then downed Sonya Das of MIT, 6-3, 6-3.  The Jumbo will now face Juli Raventos of Williams.  The winner of that match will play the winner of the match between Julia Cancio of Williams and Yagmur Akgul of Babson. Cancio upset the #1 seed in the bracket, Alexandra Fields of Middlebury in the second round of play.

First-year Zoe Miller was able to win her first match, edging Sarah Monteagudo of Amherst, 7-5, 6-4.  She then fell in the second round to Elysa Kohrs of MIT, 6-0, 6-1.

Sophomore Conner Calabro faced off against Nichole McCann of Wesleyan in the opening round, but Calabro fell, 5-7, 6-4, 10-4.  Fellow classmates Alexa Meltzer and Chelsea Hayashi also fell in the first round of play in the singles bracket.

Deb and Meltzer won their opening round match against Katie Paradies and Gibbs of Middlebury, 8-3.  Cancio and Raventos of Williams were too much for the duo as the Jumbos fell in the second round of play, 8-4.  Calabro and Hayashi fell in the opening round of doubles play to Kohrs and Victoria Tam of MIT, 8-4.  Louks and Miller also lost in the opening round of doubles play, falling to Rebecca Curran and Maria Pylpiv of Williams, 8-3.

Play in singles and doubles brackets will resume on Saturday.
